Finally monsoon has started after a long wait. It has given us some solace from the scorching heat. Last weekend we were enjoying the rain from our balcony though we were disturbed by sudden thunders and lightening. I could feel Rich’s growing uneasiness with each thunder. Hardly five minutes have passed, Rich spoke –
“Dad-Dad let’s go inside the room. We’ll do coloring”
Without any objection I said – “Ok”
We went into the room. I brought the color box and the coloring book. Sitting on the bed Rich started coloring a mango with rain and thunder in the backdrop. When I was about to climb the bed to join him, Rich requested –
“Dad-Dad, could you please close the door?”
“Rich Baba, a pleasant breeze is coming in. Are you not enjoying?” – I asked
“It’s blowing away my pages” – He instantly replied
I knew his actual concern. But he has an answer for everything – sometime it’s logical, sometimes illogical. I didn’t go into any confrontation which always ends with uproar – either I am rebuking him or him making a hue and cry. I closed the door and joined him. Suddenly he lifted his head from the page and said something which is probably the most absurd thing I have ever heard-
“We’ll buy the cloud”
After an initial astonishment, I settled down and asked – “Why in the earth do you want to buy the cloud? Do you want to fly riding on them?”
After that what I heard was more astonishing –
“They roar a lot. I want to tame them”.
I was searching for words. I was about to ask whether we need to buy something first before we want to tame them. But it would have been too much to ask such a question to him. Finally I didn’t say anything. But it’s true that once we sell ourselves, we loose our voice.
